How to Watch JioHotstar in Canada in 2026

JioHotstar is now officially available in Canada, so most viewers no longer need a VPN to watch it. The service launched in Canada on September 2, 2026, replacing the previous Hotstar Canada platform.

Canadian users can subscribe directly to JioHotstar Canada for Indian shows, movies, regional programming, Bigg Boss content, and other entertainment across multiple languages. Existing Hotstar Canada subscribers can continue with their migrated account.

A VPN is only useful if you specifically want to access the separate JioHotstar India library, which has different content and a broader sports offering.

Quick Steps to Watch JioHotstar India in Canada:

Want JioHotstar Canada? You no longer need a VPN. Open JioHotstar Canada directly and subscribe locally. The steps below are only for accessing the separate JioHotstar India library.

1. Subscribe to a VPN with Indian servers. I recommend NordVPN.
2. Open the VPN app and connect to an Indian server.
3. Visit JioHotstar India or open the app and sign in.
4. Search for your show, movie, or live sports event and start streaming in Canada.

Note: For selected Indian shows and movies, check JioHotstar Canada first. For JioHotstar India’s full library and live sports, use a VPN connected to India.

Is JioHotstar Available in Canada?

Yes. JioHotstar is officially available in Canada as a local streaming service.

Canadian viewers can sign up directly without changing regions or using a VPN. The Canada version is designed for local subscribers and includes Indian entertainment across multiple languages.

The main thing to remember is that JioHotstar Canada and JioHotstar India are not identical libraries. Some Indian-only content or sports may still require access to the India version.

What Happened to Hotstar Canada?

Hotstar Canada has been replaced by JioHotstar Canada following JioStar’s international expansion.

Existing Hotstar Canada subscribers were moved to the new JioHotstar service, so the main change is the brand, app experience, and expanded content offering rather than the loss of the Canadian service.

If you previously used Hotstar Canada, sign in to JioHotstar with your existing account details and check the plan assigned to your subscription.

How to Subscribe to JioHotstar Canada

To subscribe, open the JioHotstar Canada website or app, create an account or sign in, then choose one of the available Canadian plans.

You can subscribe directly in Canada without using an Indian payment method, changing your app-store region, or connecting to a VPN.

If you were already a Hotstar Canada subscriber, use your existing login first because your subscription may already have been migrated to JioHotstar.

JioHotstar Canada Price and Plans

JioHotstar Canada currently offers two subscription options:

• CA$19.99 every 3 months
• CA$49.99 per year

Both plans provide access to the Canadian JioHotstar entertainment library. The annual plan works out cheaper over a full year if you expect to keep the service long term.

Pricing and plan features can change, so check the current JioHotstar Canada signup page before subscribing.

Does JioHotstar Canada Have a Free Trial?

JioHotstar Canada does not currently advertise a standard free trial with its regular subscription plans.

New users can choose between the quarterly and annual plans, but payment is generally required when subscribing. Promotional offers may occasionally be available through JioHotstar or partner services, so it is worth checking the current signup page before paying.

Be careful with websites claiming to offer a “free JioHotstar trial” unless the promotion comes directly from JioHotstar or an official partner.

What’s Included With JioHotstar Canada?

JioHotstar Canada includes a large mix of Indian entertainment, including TV shows, movies, reality programming, originals, kids content, and regional-language titles.

The Canadian service offers content across 12+ languages and is designed as a broader entertainment platform than the old Hotstar Canada service.

However, the Canada library is not identical to JioHotstar India, especially for live sports and some India-only programming.

Which JioStar Channels and Shows Are Available in Canada?

JioHotstar Canada brings together programming from major JioStar brands, including entertainment from Star Plus, Colors, Star Bharat, Star Gold, and regional channels.

The catalogue includes Hindi serials, reality shows, movies, originals, and regional-language programming. Exact channel feeds and title availability can vary, so it is better to treat JioHotstar Canada as a content library rather than assume every Indian TV channel is available live.

This is also where shows such as Bigg Boss become particularly relevant for Canadian viewers.

Can You Watch Bigg Boss on JioHotstar Canada?

Yes. Bigg Boss is one of the major shows included with JioHotstar Canada, and the Canadian service adds features that go beyond regular episode streaming.

Depending on the edition, Canadian viewers can get early access to episodes, live voting, and a 24×7 live feed through JioHotstar.

Can You Watch Star Plus and Colors Shows Before TV in Canada?

Yes. JioHotstar Canada offers before-TV access to selected JioStar shows, including programming from networks such as Star Plus and Colors.

This means some episodes can become available on JioHotstar before their scheduled television broadcast, depending on the show and rights. Check the individual title page for the exact release timing, since not every series follows the same early-access schedule.

Does JioHotstar Canada Have Live Sports?

Not currently in the same way as JioHotstar India. JioHotstar Canada launched primarily with entertainment content, while major Indian sports rights such as IPL, WPL, Team India cricket, and other live sports remain part of the India service.

JioStar has not ruled out adding sports to the international service later, so this could change. For now, Canadians looking for JioHotstar’s Indian sports catalogue would need to check the separate India service and its account requirements.

JioHotstar Canada vs JioHotstar India

JioHotstar Canada and JioHotstar India use the same broader brand, but their libraries and features are not identical.

How to Access JioHotstar India From Canada

JioHotstar India is separate from the Canadian service and may include shows, movies, or sports that are not part of the Canada library.

If you need the Indian version, connect to an Indian VPN server before opening JioHotstar. You may also need a compatible Indian account and payment method, depending on the subscription or content you want to access.

For most entertainment content, check JioHotstar Canada first because it is the simpler local option.

How Does a VPN Unblock JioHotstar in Canada?

JioHotstar India is geo-restricted outside India because of content licensing. When you visit it from Canada, the platform can detect your Canadian IP address and may block access to the Indian library.

A VPN helps by replacing your Canadian IP address with an Indian IP address. Once connected to an Indian server, JioHotstar may recognize your location as India and allow access to the Indian version of the platform.

This is useful if you want to watch JioHotstar India’s full library, live cricket, Indian shows, movies, regional content, and JioCinema titles from Canada.

However, you may still need an Indian mobile number, Indian account, or India-supported payment method to sign in or subscribe.

On iPhone or iPad, search for JioHotstar in the Canadian App Store. On Android, download it from Google Play Canada. The service is also available on supported connected TVs and streaming devices.

After installing the app, sign in with your JioHotstar Canada account and start streaming.

• iPhone and iPad
• Android phones and tablets
• Web browsers on computers
• Supported smart TVs
• Compatible streaming devices

Device support can vary by platform and app version, so if the JioHotstar app does not appear on your TV or streaming device, check the device’s app store for current availability.
